What is transcoding and why do I need it?
Transcoding re-converts a video or audio from one format/codec to another - to reduce size, make it compatible with a platform (TikTok, YouTube), change resolution or optimize playback. transcode.ro automates the whole process.
What files can I upload?
Video and audio files in common formats (MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, WebM, MP3, WAV, etc.). You have a per-account storage limit, shown in your dashboard.
How much does it cost?
1 credit per minute of transcoded video (rounded down), 1 credit per 2 minutes for VMAF, and 5 credits to translate a subtitle. The cost is shown before each operation. See the packages on the Pricing page.
How do I get credits?
You can buy credit packages (see Pricing) - for example 1000 minutes for €10. You see your balance and full history in the Credits section.
Which codec should I use?
H.264 for maximum compatibility, H.265 for 4K and archival, AV1 or VP9 for efficient web streaming. Recommended profiles pick the right codec automatically - see the Codecs page.
Can I check quality first?
Yes: run VMAF on a sample to compare visually and on charts, then transcode the whole film with your chosen settings.
Is my data private?
Yes. The service is self-hosted on DreamServer.ro infrastructure, files are isolated per account, and translation/analysis run locally. See the Privacy page.
